About this app

Permit Test Practice is an independent study app, not affiliated with or endorsed by any government agency, including FLHSMV, Texas DPS, the California DMV and the New York State DMV. Practice questions are written in our own words from each state's official driver handbook. Always check the official sources for the current rules:

Florida (FLHSMV)
Driver License Handbook: https://www.flhsmv.gov/pdf/handbooks/englishdriverhandbook.pdf
Class E knowledge exam: https://www.flhsmv.gov/driver-licenses-id-cards/licensing-requirements-teens-graduated-driver-license-laws-driving-curfews/class-e-knowledge-exam-driving-skills-test/

Texas (DPS)
Texas Driver Handbook: https://www.dps.texas.gov/internetforms/Forms/DL-7.pdf
Learner license: https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/driver-license/texas-learners-license-teen

California (DMV)
California Driver Handbook: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/california-driver-handbook/
Learner's permit: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/driver-licenses-identification-cards/learners-permits/

New York (NYS DMV)
Driver's Manual: https://dmv.ny.gov/document/mv-21
Permit test: https://dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/prepare-for-and-take-your-permit-test

Pick your state and the app follows that state's handbook and test format:
- Florida: the Class E Knowledge Exam, 50 questions, 40 right to pass.
- Texas: practice tests have 30 questions and use the handbook's 70% pass mark. The app helps with the knowledge questions; it does not replace a required driver education course.
- California: practice tests use 46 questions under 18 and 36 at 18 and over, with 38 and 30 right to pass. Set your age group on the practice test screen.
- New York: 20 questions and 14 right to pass, and at least 2 of the 4 road sign questions must be right on their own, or the test is failed.
You can switch state at any time, and each state keeps its own progress.

Take a practice test based on your state's published exam format. Nothing is marked until you finish. Then review the questions you missed, each with an explanation, a reference to the handbook section and a link to the official handbook.

The road sign trainer groups 66 signs by type: red and white rules, yellow warnings, orange work zones, school and pedestrian signs, railroad signs and service signs. Tap a sign to turn it over, or name 10 signs in a row in the quick sign quiz.

Study by chapter when you want to learn rather than test yourself. Every answer comes with a short explanation.

Questions you get wrong, and questions you flag, come back in Weak areas until you answer them right twice in a row.

The readiness score on the home screen comes from your last three practice tests, alongside the three chapters where you have scored lowest.

The flashcards cover rules and numbers worth reviewing: learner permit hours and curfews, points, BAC limits, speed limits, following distance, parking distances and the school bus law.

Set your test date and the app counts down to it, with a daily study reminder at the time you choose and one the evening before.

Passed your permit test? Make a card to share the news.

It works offline, with no account and no ads. Settings lists the official sources for your state. Your progress stays on your phone, and you can back it up to a file.

Before you unlock: 40 sample questions covering every chapter, one full practice test, the whole road sign trainer and 10 flashcards. A one-time purchase opens every question in every state, unlimited practice tests, Weak areas and every flashcard. No subscription.
